BetterHalve ("the app") is an iOS app built by Luke Beretta. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights.
Data We Collect
When you create an account, we collect your name and email address via Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In.
When you use the app, we store the expense and financial data you enter — including descriptions, amounts, categories, dates, and how costs are split between you and your partner. Settlement records and recurring expense configurations are also stored.
On the Wealth tab, we store the assets and debts you add — their names, categories, values and value history, who owns them, and any net-worth goal you set.
Your household settings (name and currency) are stored, and your device's locale and region are used to suggest a default currency.
If you turn on notifications, we store a push token for your device so we can tell you when your partner adds an expense or you reach a goal milestone. Exchange rates fetched from a third-party API are cached locally on your device for 24 hours.
How We Use Your Data
Your data is used solely to operate the app — to sync expenses and wealth between partners, calculate balances, process recurring expenses, send notifications, and show spending insights. Insights are calculated from your own data; nothing is sent to an AI service.
We do not use your data for advertising or to train AI models.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Third-Party Services
- Firebase (Google) — authentication and cloud database storage
- Google Sign-In — account creation and authentication
- Sign in with Apple — account creation and authentication
- Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service — delivering notifications, if you turn them on
- Frankfurter API — live currency exchange rates (no personal data is sent)
- CoinGecko API — Bitcoin prices for converting Bitcoin amounts (no personal data is sent)
- DiceBear API — avatar generation (no personal data is sent)
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored in Google Firebase Firestore. Firebase applies industry-standard security measures and data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
Access to your household data is restricted to you and your partner. No other users can view your expenses or financial information.
Your data is retained until you delete your account. When you delete it, your profile, invites, notification tokens, any household you use on your own, and wealth items owned only by you are permanently removed within 30 days. Expenses and joint items you shared with a partner remain available to them.
Your Rights
You can delete your account at any time directly within the app: go to Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent, and works as described above.
If you prefer, you can also request deletion by emailing [email protected] and we will process it promptly.
If you have questions about your data or this policy, reach out at the same address.
Changes
This policy may be updated from time to time. Significant changes will be noted with an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
